Pentecost 9 (Ord Sun 16)

As he went ashore, Jesus saw a great crowd; and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
— Mark 6:34

COLLECT: Eternal God, author of our life and end of our pilgrimage: guide us by your word and spirit amid all perils and temptations, that we may not wander from your way, but may   run our course in safety until we come to our eternal rest in you; through the grace of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and   reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and   ever. Amen.

Archbishop Hosam, Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem : “I ask those within the Anglican Communion and all of Christendom to join with us in offering the following prayer”.

Almighty and Everlasting God: our days are in your hands; we lift up all those in the Holy Land who are victims of violence and injustice, that you might empower your Church to bring healing to the wounded, relief to the suffering, and comfort to those who mourn; we pray also that you would soften the hearts of all those involved in the recent conflicts, that they would be led to work for justice and lasting peace in the land where your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ first came to bring hope and abundant life to all people; these things we ask in his Holy Name. Amen.

Archbishop Hosam, Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem

A Prayer for Ukraine: God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.  Amen

Archbishop Justin Welby: Archbishop of Canterbury
Archbishop Stephen Cottrell: Archbishop of York.

Prayers

For The World: We pray for peace and shared prosperity.  We give thanks for leaders who serve the common good.  Give wisdom to those who have responsibility and authority in every land, that all may share with justice the resources of the world, and work together in trust.  We pray for an end to the war between Ukraine and Russia, and between Israel and Palestine.

Our Country: We give thanks for this land and the diversity of its peoples.  Grant that we may so honour one another that all may be enriched by our common heritage and freed from despair, poverty and exclusion.

World Wide Anglican Community:  We give thanks for the good news of salvation for all people.  Strengthen us for our work in the world, empower your Church to proclaim the gospel in service, word and sacrament.  Unite in the truth all who confess your name, that we may live together in love to your glory.

The Anglican Church of Australia: We pray for the Diocese of Riverina: Donald Kirk - bishop, clergy and people.

Our Diocese: The Parish of Goondiwindi: John Rolley - parish priest, and people.

Diocesan Schools: All Saints Anglican School, Merrimac. For the principal, administration staff, chaplain, teachers, students, School Council members, and their families.

Defence Force Anglicans:  For the Chaplains we pray for gifts of holiness; that with wisdom, diligence and zeal, they may open the eyes of the blind, comfort those who suffer, and speak peace to the dying. We pray that they may strengthen the weak and encourage the strong, that in all their worship and ministrations, in all their life and conversation, they may lead services with potency, shepherd the souls committed to their care, and advance the honour of the Kingdom of God.  We also pray for retired chaplains and their families

Within Our Community: We pray for those suffering through the cold at this time.  As we are warm in our homes, we pray for those who are living in harsh conditions and are struggling to keep warm.  For those living in tents, cars or in parks.  Those who have nothing to keep the cold at bay from them.  We give thanks for the various organisations within our community who attempt to ease the suffering of those less fortunate than ourselves.

Other Denominations: We pray for the Lutheran Church of Redcliffe; for the Margate Baptist Church; for the pastors and congregations.

Our Parish: We give thanks for those who assist in our worship: for the St. Peter’s Band; for those who care for the grounds and gardens.

Those Seeking Healing: Hayley, Shirley, Allan, Nina, David.

Those know to us in our own hearts, for those who come from within our congregations.  In your compassion, Father, comfort and heal those who are in trouble, sorrow, need or sickness.

Those Mourning: For those who mourn the death of a loved one at this time.

Departed:  We praise you for all your servants whose lives have honoured Christ. For all the faithful of this parish who have gone before us.  Encourage us by their example, so that we may run with perseverance the race that lies before us, and share with them the fullness of joy in your kingdom.
